BLIND DATING
Not many days back, I saw a movie by this name and this was one of the movies that really moved me. For those of you who have not seen it, it is about a blind guy who suddenly finds his true love. She (an Indian girl called lisa) later on tells him that she has already given her word to another guy who is an Indian and such are the customs in India. (People in India are better acquainted with such things)
He bitterly tells her that it was apparent that she did not want a bind man as her husband. The wretchedness on his face was just marvelous to behold. I closed my eyes for many moments and for some time could get into the character. Kind of got an idea what it felt like. One of the beautiful things about seeing touching movies is that it opens you up to new aspects of yourself you never knew existed.
She is torn with love for this guy and the traditions she is bound to (Indians can get a far better picture). He then even refuses to undergo an operation that can possibly cure him because of extreme bitterness! Finally when the operation is done, the doctors are hopeful that he would regain his sight and for a brief moment he is able to see people. But the doctors advise him to take complete rest and not have the slightest movement as it could result in his not getting his eyesight back.
When he knows that the day of the marriage has come, he throws caution to the winds and goes in search of his love and in the process totally undermines the possible success of the operation. The journey from his place to the marriage hall was moving. He goes and tells her in no uncertain terms what he thinks love is, associating everything wonderful and lovely with her. She is not able to control herself anymore and they marry. In the end, he says with a dash of humor “I am perhaps the only guy who has lost his eyesight twice in the course of a lifetime”
Now, though it is only a movie, it did force me to think of an aspect that is closely intertwined with our life. How many of us in fact know what is that which we desire with all our heart? How many of us are willing to stake everything for it and then go for it as though failure never existed? And how many of us believe in dreams and passions in the first place?
Not all that I write is goal, plan and action oriented. I do deeply believe in philosophy too. Only when we make time to reflect on things that we so often take for granted, are our creative wells filled. That is when we act in ways that is in accordance with our actual purpose on this planet.
